God Sure Has A Strange Sense Of Humor!

I've heard and used this phrase many, many times in my life but this morning (as heard it again) I was struck with the fact that we use this term when blaming God for strange things or happenings. When was the last time (if ever) that I used the term when actually realzing the humor of God? Do I even know what God finds humorous? DOES GOD HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR?
Why, He must! We were created in His image and a big part of our daily experience involves a giggle here, a giggle there and then there are those daily moments of flat out laughter at a joke, a kitten chasing the "red dot" on the carpet or when we embarrass ourselves when nobody's watching. Let alone when we purpose to be entertained by comedy - who doesn't enjoy a good stand-up or a romantic comedy?

It's safe to say that God must have a sense of humor but then the question is... Is it "strange, twisted or sick"? You know the senario - take Bob for instance: everyone who knows Bob, knew that he had planned his adult life since the age of 10. He had everything planned down to the type and color of Mustang he would drive, wife, two kids (boy & girl, first to be born during the the fifth year of marriage, second immediately following) and one male Labrador Retriever named "Ruffus". The plan was perfect! Fast forward to Bob's 10 year reunion... Bob is there with his wife and you ask him how things have turned out. He fills you in: "Sue and I have 4 children (expecting our 5th in 2 months), we are foster parents to 4 other's, 3 mutts of a dog and I drive 15 passenger  van". Your response (of course with a smile): "Wow, Bob! Your life is sure different then what you had planned!" And here it comes...one of the three of you will exclaim: "God sure has a funny sense of humor!" All of Heaven will laugh and laugh and laugh as Bob warns against speaking too boldly about your plans because God will surly mastermind a much different unfolding just to let you know that He's in charge!

REALLY!?!?

Is this the God who so loves us that He kicked in the gates of hell to rescue humanity?

He's just a puppeteer, mess'n with the peons?

Kids, life unfolds right before our eyes. Our choices do have bearing on the outcome, sometimes the outcome is hilarious and sometimes tragic. But it is never that God is sitting in cosmic control booth, listening to our silliness and then orchestrating the opposite outcome.

The scripture's do indicate that joy and happiness our part of God's character and we can look at just a few examples of His humorous  creativity...

...and know for certain that God is a hilariously creative genius but He is not out to override and manipulate His children into accomplish His will for us!

Love God! Live your life! Enjoy the journey!

God is for you not against you!

His Grace Is Enough!

Great read Adam. I love the point that God is not in a "Cosmic Control Booth" orchestrating opposite outcomes to what we desire.

Keep it up - You are a THOUGHT LEADER!!!

I grew up in Northern California where I lived an extremely selfish life until the age of 29. Through a series of life altering events, I became a follower of Jesus.
I have been pastoring now since 1996. For the first 10 years I pastored from the platform of what I now understand to be a "law / grace" mixture. I instinctively knew that something was out of alignment with what I propagated and the Father heart of God for His children. In 2011, I embarked on a journey which has transformed everything about who I am and the message I now carry... This journey has taken me into the depth of the finished work of the cross from which I now eat, drink and breathe!
From the core of who I am, I am driven by an extreme urgency to tell as many people as I possibly can, the good news of God’s Grace!
